It's a question that almost every new client asks. "How may sessions will it take for you to make me stop (or start) doing X, Y, or Z?"
It's a reasonable question. Many people come to hypnotherapy at their wits end. They've tried everything else and might even be desperate. All they want is relief.
Of course hypnotherapy can work very quickly. But quality mental, emotional, and spiritual health can't and shouldn't be rushed. If it takes just a few sessions to resolve your issue, that's great. But sometimes it just takes a few more.
So how do you decide how many sessions will be right for you?
There are hypnotherapists who only offer set packages to their clients. Three, or five, or even ten sessions. They have developed programs that employ a specific sequence of techniques that they follow no matter what the presenting issue. This can be really beneficial because the therapist is offering a course of treatment that they have had proven success with.
Other hypnotherapists, myself included, advise their clients to start out committing to at least two or three full sessions. Later on, you and the therapist can assess whether or not more sessions are needed.
The best advice is to consult with a few different hypnotherapists. These days, many offer free consultations of some sort. There you can present your issue and get a professional opinion about what will work best for you.
Everyone is unique. We are all on our own hero's journey. Some are longer or shorter than others. Some people experience a flash of Promethean insight in their first couple of sessions. Others are inclined to wander a while through winding inner mazes of memory and experience until they finally meet and slay their personal dragons. Either way, transformation and healing occur and lives are changed for the better.
In the end, it's up to you.
